how to go clever shopping

Head down
A lot of expensive products are often positioned at eye level, so ‘head down’ to the lower shelves to find the cheaper products, which are often just as good as, or even better than the expensive ones. Sometimes shops hang some pieces in the second row and you just need to dig a bit deeper to find some real gems.

Trend Check
Before you go shopping with the intent to shop for the newest trends, take your time and research at home using magazines, Pinterest or Instagram. This can save a lot of time in the stores if you already know what you are looking for.

Perfect Timing
If you go into town to go shopping try to avoid the rush-hour times. I personally advise to go from 10-12 o’clock if you need to go on Saturdays. If it is possible try to go during the week.

Shop during sale periods. Note in your calendars the 25th January for the next winter sale in Germany.

No Rushed Decisions
If you are in a hurry to get your shopping and you quickly pay without trying something on, it can often be a bad decision and lead to a wrong purchase. So, if you are in a rush but see something you might like, just ask the store assistant to put it behind for you so you can come back and take another look at it.

First let me take a selfie
If you are unsure about a piece just take a selfie in the mirror and send it to your friend and ask for advice. Also, looking at the picture rather than in the mirror allows you to have a more objective view.

Take it with you
If you are looking for a specific accessory, bag or shoes fitting to your outfit, bring your outfit shopping with you, so you can really make sure everything fits perfectly and isn’t the wrong color, shape or style.

Be a Clubber
Some shops have Clubs and Club memberships, where you can get percentages off your shopping or can take advantage of special deals. The newest club I joined is the H&M Club. I really recommend having a look at it.

Keep it flat
While shopping keep it flat and comfortable. Personally I love flats such as ballerinas, loafers or sneakers.

Washing your clothes by hand can be very annoying and tiring, and sometimes these pieces end up not being worn anymore because of this. So check the little label inside to see if you can throw it in the washing machine.

Pay by Cash
If you tend to buy more than you can actually afford, try going out only with cash in your pocket and set yourself a limit.
